Keep those chickens rollin'

We like to keep our chickens happy and healthy by insuring that they have access to fresh grass, weeds and insects every day. To do that, rather than a traditional chicken coop with an attached yard, we use rolling chicken coops.

We have two large coops which we purchased from Peter and Nancy Sikora, in Sturgis, SK. They can be reached at 306-548-2951. We also use a few smaller coops which were made in-house.

All of the coops are moved twice a day, every day, to ensure that the chickens are on new grass. It also spreads their waste around the field, providing fertilizer for the plants.

A nesting box helps to make collecting eggs easier. It's comfortable for the hens, and the eggs don't get as dirty as they would on the ground.

The larger coops can't always accommodate everyone, or injured/sick chickens may need to be kept apart from the group. For these birds we use smaller, hand made coops around the yard.
